Everything hurts. My feet hurt, my shoulders hurt, my knees have bruises, my head hurts from strange sleeping patterns and my arms have sore red bits and a row of water blisters from my gloves...

For those not in the know Maelstrom was this weekend - the last event of 2006.

My trip down to the site was slightly hampered by a set of directions that stopped at a place at least 15-20 away from where I was supposed to end up. Apparently trusting the post code was a bad idea. Fortunately more clued up members of our group ([livejournal.com profile] lucian_albrecht and [livejournal.com profile] midnightoak) were able to rescue me when I realised I was going the wrong way.

It seems we had all been a little lax on remembering to get tickets for the event and only our Gouverner had an advance bought ticket. Ironically she was also not turning up to the event. So we found ourselves without an actual IC tent. This due to them not thinking we were coming so in game we blamed it on our deciding to leave it behind due to the lack of gouverner on site. However no one can say the Schaffhausen don't squat in style for the silverware and candles were laid out ready for guests nonetheless.

Not a lot happened at the event. The only fights that broke out had nothing to do with us. Though remarkably two of them were right outside our camp.

Events of note were:

Our Gouverner unexpectedly appearing on Saturday morning. (Thus us revising what happened to our tent - not that many people asked anyway)

The dragons getting married (We saw the tail end of the ceremony uhm literally) - I loved when the Mayan general got rid of an Eidolon (who was too close) by stating that "Yes, blessings from very far away are much appreciated" and then again when he asked what a turning circle was (she was clearing space for the dragons to move) said "If you stand over there (forcing him to move away) you'll get to see one shortly".

The Rukh wedding that was the in game reason for the event. Where they ran around a tree to catch their brides.

The native tribes person who came over and went "So YOU'RE Schaffhausen! I asked around my tribe and the one person who had met you said, 'Oh Schaffhausen? They have good cake.' It was the only thing he remembered."

Avoiding the acorns that the tree above us kept dropping and the resulting "horizontal acorns" that occurred.

The two sales people that came to our camp to try to sell us (in their own words) tat.

And Aud Uruva getting attacked by a dryad (if you ask her nicely [livejournal.com profile] midnightoak will explain what this is about ;)

My drive home was much smoother though I really don't think I took the same route back. I'll add other things to this list should I remember them...It's always tricky trying to explain what goes on at such events.

Edit to add new things I remember

You forgot to mention the salesmen returning later so one of them could present attendant Aud with a bouquet of flowers before running away in embarrassment, leaving Aud very flustered and having to spend the rest of the weekend being ribbed by the General and Governor who seemed to think her being married shouldn't stand in the way of her getting married again in the New World...

In other news...my HP-like scar now aches whenever an acorn is about to fall...grrrr dryads.

I completely forgot to mention finding out about the marriages within the Merasusi Camp and the guy who has numbers down his face to denote the amount of wives he had. One of whom was the Merasusi Grave (no 4 of 6 in fact). ;)

The speedo wasn't sorted we just returned it as usual. There was no way that the AA man could fix it it turns out, but we survived and didn't speed once *phew*

I know what you mean about explaining things after the fact. So many things happen in parallel, and that need to be explained in a wider context, that it's hard for anyone who doesn't attend to make head or tail of it.

Yeah I always end up having to explain at least half the Maelstrom background and more than a fair share of the plot to then just mention why one little comment or event was funny.
