And for once I'm not talking about my demon chariot of a car.

My computer almost gave me a heart attack yesterday. I was helping a friend of mine finish a project for uni in time for the deadline (she was having issues getting her laptop to run the program needed). I was feeling all superhero like as I swooped down with my car to pick her up in a flash of red. Java may have been something I haven't used in two/three years but I can debug most things I have a passing knowledge of. From a non-working program to something that compiles and actually shows up took me 2 and a half hours the day before.

But yesterday I was called on to help again and I swooped down and fetched my friend. I then went to set up the computer.

I pressed the button on the front and nothing. The shiny LED on the front shone but no system beep to tell me the hardware was loading correctly. Ok not too bad I get this sometimes - a static charge or some such- no problem do the normal things and 10-15 tries later it starts.

Only to freeze part way through the system check. (that's the nice white on black stuff that runs on the screen for a while for those that aren't sure what I am referring to )

I feared it would not start if I switched it off completely so rebooted loads more times before switching it off completely, taking a deep breath, then starting again. That's when it told me what was wrong. My cpu was running too fast AGAIN. This can be caused by a number of things, usually in my case by the scanner being switched on before I start. So unpluging everything in sight that wasn't necessary I tried again. Nothing.

I finally managed to get it to accept some new settings in the setup screen and prayed it would work as that was my final resort. Luck was with me and on try uhm 37ish it finally let me log in.

Annoying me then by running smoothly without any issues for rest of evening. I will be creating new backups today. On top of the ones I already have. Provided it lets me startup again....fingers crossed and touching wood.

Need a new computer. And for those in the know I was so dejected by this that I refused a cup of tea when it was offered me.
