I finally got round to trying to rewrite my story that was causing me issues. POV has now been restored to the original main character. All six pages are now her story.

How did I do it? By ignoring it for a week until felt I was able to tackle it objectively instead of not wanting to touch my baby of a creation as it was too precious.

I just need to work on the editing now.

So I've abandoned my POV struggle until I'm not so close to the text I've written. Makes it easier to change the text if I give myself a break from it.

Instead I am now returning to my favourite of my universes to play in. Created as a world for my RPG group to run around in it has taken on a life of its own. My main story has been rewritten three times but still fights to be finished.

However I've started to allow myself to write the smaller extracts of life before the main plot. The things that shaped the way the world is Now (in the during the main plot time frame that is).

My main focus at the moment is the creation of one of the three cursed races of the world. After all it's not often you can focus on what would happen if suddenly for no reason one hundred thousand people just over night became something else.

Anyway I am on page three and really loving trying to explain their thoughts and fears while also showing what they can (and will) become.

Edit: Another one bites the dust... First draft panda dance. 8 1/2 pages in all. Now just need to edit it.

Ok so update on my writing. As usual I have more ideas than time and more time than motivation. However I finally got round to finishing yet other short story that now needs heavy editing.

My main issue - P.O.V

The story is just over 6 pages long and for the first 5 I manage to keep the P.O.V on one person. Something that I usually find quite tricky. Then it all goes horribly wrong as I switch P.O.V for one page at the end only to have the last two sentences as the original P.O.V

So now I have to work out if I'm going to scrap the whole section and rewrite it in the correct P.O.V or if I am going to add the other P.O.V in earlier... Thus changing the dynamic of the story yet again.

Decisions, decisions... Anyway back to typing. Otherwise I'll never get anything done.

So I've started to comment on my writing on my LJ. I think this is probably the fourth time or some such. I never intended to comment about it here but hey. It's a journal and well writing is what I do when I can. So not mentioning it does leave out a big chunk of what I do.

Currently I'm focusing on a random pirate short and am having trouble not making my pirates sound like a bunch of boarding school dropouts. Trying to write an accent when you are used to trying to not write grammatical mistakes can grate a bit. I keep wanting to correct their speech :)

But I also said I would finish fallen 7. So with both files open I hope to get one of them done at some point. I can see the pirate thing taking a while though so fallen is likely to get done first.

Fingers crossed for both of them...

So for those that want to know and those that didn't know, I do try to write a lot. Proof can be seen here and here of what I have already done. Not a lot to show but then the longer stories never make it to the bright world of the internet.

And recently I have been doing well. I have four stories I am hoping to get up on elfwood soon. I just lack one thing.

Editing!

One is already done so only three actually need doing. I'd do it myself but as most writers know trying to find errors, when you read what you mean not what you actually put down, is tricky.

I'd ask [livejournal.com profile] midnightoak who has always been great for this sort of thing but she has soo much else to do that I don't want to burden her further.

Ah well it will get done eventually. I will update soon. *fingers crossed*

PS. Am trying to write Fallen 7 but keep running into a wall every few sentences. I am trying though inbetween the other stories... "Oi get back in line! No jumping the queue! One story idea at a time!" hehe ;)

Edit: In an edit that will probably only make sense to [livejournal.com profile] midnightoak I just realised last night that I can't have the race I intended to use in the second story of Cutting Edge as they do not exist yet. Yeah for having already decided on the exact history of the world and grr for my imagination forgetting that. Now need to work out a way to fix the issue before the idea slips through my fingers.

Or in my case to sleep and definitely dream. And not your average, strange but nice dream but one of those "Man that was creepy but can be used as a story dreams." <-- I have these a lot it seems.

I, of course, am aware that this is a symptom of my increasing lack of sleep recently. Something I hope to remedy soon as my evenings are usually spent yawning...

Yesterday I dreamt Firefly dreams. Putting in a new section to the 'how they met Jayne' scene that was firefly through and through except Inara had a tweety-pie badge attached to her hair. Also the Wash - Kaylee scene was like something out of a bad fanfic...

Today I got a whole weird timetravel, ghost, saving souls thing. Which given adequate time I might make into a short story, but until then I will note down here so I don't forget it. *Shudder* <--it was creepy while I was dreaming it. I don't often get that creepy...

Now that was my weird and creepifying dream.

Ok so some days you just need to not write something serious or completely constructed from scratch. This for me has resulted in a rather random tales called The Fallen that I update whenever I need to get away from writing other things. Or simply to stay sane at work. <-- It could be debated that this is an impossible task.

It's a fanfic so those that don't like reading such don't bother. I will say it is not slash, does not have relationships at its core i.e I'm not pairing any of my borrowed cast. And, shock horror, does have an attempt at plot :D

Why am I writing this comment? Oh yeah, to mention I have just uploaded chapter 6 for those that want to read it. I don't update this story often (unless prodded) so be warned... but also the ending will come. I have the plot generally worked out. I just need to decide how many chapters to make it.

Right so another strange and random rant for those who bother to read my lj. I've no idea who you are as only [livejournal.com profile] midnightoak and [livejournal.com profile] lucian_albrecht tend to comment here.

I have been so over stimulated in the brain pan recently, I was even telling someone the plot to a story in a dream. The only issue I've then had is actually writing anything. Not a word written in 5 days. I even spent an unfruitful 2 hours staring at a page without adding a word.

So imagine my surprise when this morning at work, feeling so tired I could be asleep with my eyes open I actually managed to write the beginning to the story that explains the above title.

Now I have also promised to finish chapter 6 of The Fallen. Which I have the first paragraph for but no more. I will get round to it I swear.

I also want to update elfwood but that involves actually finishing other things. Not to mention the longer stories I need to edit and work on in an effort to finish them.

I need some encouragement, tea and sleep. Not necessarily in that order. I also need to actually start typing. Bad writer, bad! :P

So I shall go back to the bar room brawl that is my brain and see how far I get, while on the phone and actually working.

So in a new random event [livejournal.com profile] midnightoak has started to teach me old english. So far my main words are: goes, with, king and him; meaning my sentences are not that exciting. Though it is fun to randomly turn round and go "Legolas and Aragorn ferp mid Theodene cyninge".

My mum gave me a confidence boost recently with the words "you could write a book". Apparently she believes that if I put my mind to it I could actually manage it. This from the person who thinks being a writer is not a good career choice :D

So since this revelation what have I actually written beyond this lj entry? One lousy sentence. One! You would think I could do better than that. On the upside I have managed to finally make up my mind on the age of two characters in "Across the Divide" (a story I've been writing for five years) and put all the handwritten stuff on the computer. Strangely ideas are not an issue. I have more than I can possibly type. I just don't actually get round to typing them.

Time for a quick kick up the backside and large cups of tea I think.

So I've updated Elfwood but no, Mr Jenkins got rejected again.

This time it was NOT MY FAULT. I state this because I can accept that the first time it was.

The reason for the rejection: The illustrations do not show up in the story. Either remove links or add illustrations to site.

Slight problem here. The pictures were added and did show up when I checked the file before submitting. The question therefore is "Why do they not show up now?"

Being of a techy curious bent I decided to check.

Note to self: In future do not update with Illustrations when the main elfwood site is down.

So through no fault of my own I must now attempt to resubmit Mr Jenkins again. Only I have to wait until Sunday. Third time lucky I hope.
