So today I went back to work after loosing the tail end of last week to the lurgy and hoping I could catch up without too much hassle.

To this end I was actually quite successful even if I did a self-imposed ban on artificer and anything else not work related.

I lasted until lunch, but forced myself to only have 15 minutes...the afternoon was a long dragged out affair because of it and I started to wonder what it was I actually enjoyed about my job. (This fluctuates from week to week. Some days I do, some days I really, really don't) Suffice to say I'm kind of on top of things now fortunately.

To top off the good girl vibes I then went food shopping and did my first proper meal since we returned from lalenth.

So now back to the froth and preparing the game I will be running tomorrow whether I am fully prepared or not...

Right, I am planning on being stressed this week and I thought it only right to warn people so they know what to expect when they talk to me...

I've got too much to do at work as I've got a project deadline this week and I'm checking my work and a collegue's who is on holiday.

I've got two outfits to finish for artificer. [livejournal.com profile] ammos has been great and leant me the perfect cloak to keep [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble warm so that's a little less stress for me. But I still have to do over 20 button holes...

I've got roleplay society on Tuesday when I will be running a taster game that I have yet to design or create anything for. (I will pull something out of a hat if I must).

That's what I'm allowed to do. If you find me doing something else tell me off. If I'm doing one of the above and you pester me. Be warned it might not be pretty. ;)

Talk to you next Monday again when I'm back from Artificer and my life is less of a stress fest.

We had the roleplay gang round (minus one so the game wasn't running) and started to watch Primeval. There is a lovely chase scene in a school that ends with the 'hero' picking up a fire extinguisher and using it defend himself against the prehistoric lizard that is hunting him.

"See it's a black on (refering to the large black C02 label on the extinguisher), I told you that they would have had a black one for electrical fires."

"Does it really matter?" I asked.

"Yes, she (referring to the player who had been in jeopardy last week) could have frozen its nose off."

"I don't know," said the player in question. "I was just happy I had a fire extinguisher at all."

The world can be a little harsh on us storytellers and DMs when we don't have the time to prepare our thoughts properly.

There you go thinking that you've thought of every possible thing the players might ask when you send them off on a mission. You've ploted the stats for the demon they have to fight, you've worked out the layout of the building and what is within reach for the player to use as a weapon.

The battle is going well. You've chased them down the stairs, in a suitably demonesque manner, crawling over banisters with extra hands. The player runs for the lobby and grabs the fire extinguisher, they are just about to aim it at the beast when...

"What type of fire extinguisher is it?" The question is innocent but the scene grinds to a halt.

"A red one." I reply... "One of the normal ones..." Thus ensues a lovely debate as to the type and colour of the extinguisher in question. It should be said that yes I know thye come in different varieties...however I hadn't really given it much thought beyond that. Once we clarified that yes it was a red one and contained high pressure water* the scene could continue...

The player gets in a lucky shot stunning the demon slightly but it retaliated slicing across the player and hitting the extinguisher with its claws so that the whole thing explodes in from the pressure, sending bits flying around...

"No it wouldn't" The scene halted again.

"I'm sorry?" I said, preparing to fight my corner again.

"The pressure isn't that high." And the debate is on. Now the player whose life rested in the balance was nice and tried to help fight my corner but in the end it was a lost cause. I still maintained some damage could be caused but we glossed over it all as best we could.

So any of you budding DMs out there bewarned. If you have someone who has been trained as a fire marshall and has been given first hand knowledge of extinguishers...make sure there is a handy broom nearby instead...

Now as long as I avoid first hand demon experts I should be fine.

* This because that is the one to have in a building with the risk of paper based fires.

My Roleplaying week started out a bit worse for wear when two of our players for Cthulu did not turn up. We cancelled again and unless things improve by next week we'll be seriously thinking about reformatting either the game or what we are doing. *pleh* I was enjoying being the least sane person in the group.

Tuesday which I write down in my diary as my Lynx day (and no not because I douse things in deoderant) was a much better day. All our players turned up, well bar the guy whose character is dead.

I do a lot of strange things when I'm tired, going all giggly and hyper. So what's a cat to do in a game of shapechangers? Well act like a cat. I jumped, pounced, chased and played. I looked at the weird shadow world in wonder batting at things like a kitten. I would have purred but I'm no good at it and it comes off sounding like a growl. And the best bit, I get extra experience for being in character :D

Now I just wish I wasn't soo tired.

I spent most of yesterday evening working on preparing my characters for a return to Tintar and creating the character sheet for a 'new' character joining the group.

I'm starting to feel a sense of the inevitable at the moment. Something in my life has to give. It's just a question of whether it will be my health, my sanity or something else...

My Dilemma, cut for longwinded explanation )

At least one good thing right now is that I have finished my first draft of project 20 for the Herscher Project. Now to the editing.

I haven't posted all week but have been meaning to... only thing is now it's not all fresh in my mind. I have had a busy week and not just physically. My brains been a bit haywire as well.

To explain my schedule so far has been

What I've Done - Cut for being long and rambley and not that exciting )

Feeling in need of some time off being me as the rest of my week is just as hectic

What I will be doing - also cut for rambliness and low interest factor )

I'd be looking forward to my weekend but that looks like organised mess as well. I think I need time off from being me. Christmas is looking awfully nice right now.

So I finally got round to updating my wiki for my oriental game. I just felt I had to get this week's update written up for people to read.

I decided to use my new found lego as a physical representation of what was happening as the session last week had ended with a scene that could result in a lot of collateral damage.

The players watched in avid fascination as I set the scene using lego minifigs, lego horses and playing cards for carts. By the end of the session, with the bad guy trying to escape, the casualties were as follows:

15 civilians dead and roughly another 20 injured including one horse, 2 demons dead, 2 unconscious and 2 alive and no players dead, though some injuries.

Links to photos will be added when I have the chance to upload them to flickr tonight.

EDIT: Look here for the photos.

So it's that day again. The one where those who are coupley are asked to commercially prove it, despite having done so quite adequately the other 355 days of year.

Now don't get me wrong I like a well executed valentine's surprise, but how surprising is it if you already know the day :P

It should be known I did the full blown dinner yesterday as tonight we, as true roleplayers, are gaming. It should be said when RPG night falls on the 14th you better hope your DM is single or has a girlfriend in the group.

Also on the overabundance of lovey doveyness, I decided to have some soup for lunch and the canteen decided to make heart shaped croutons.
shazrasha: (jenkins beware)
I am in a strange mood today. All bouncy and hyper. I am reprising my role as "Skye the Halfling walking armory" at RPG, starting this evening. I've been updating and cleaning up her character sheet recently and boy did I have a lot of strange items. I even found two I'd forgotten I had and a whole list of stuff that could be cursed/magic or both, I hadn't had the time to check.

I just wanted to say that as I was asked whether there was a log of Skye's adventures anywhere, so I am now setting one up. The Adventures of S.O.R. AKA Skye's Diary.

Enjoy

Lacking Plot )

And on another note - Cosmic Karma. I'm just wondering if all those agencies and sales people and anyone who needs to get hold of me have a tracker on me. It just that they all seem to invariably call me when I'm driving. All of them. It's very annoying as it means I have to call them back. Sneaky so and so's.

Teas so far: None.

So having sold my pedometer to mum as she broke hers I haven't moved much this week. What with the website to finish and work I barely got out of my seat and my computer screen became to familiar.

So yesterday I took matters into my own hands and went to replace the pedometer. I still spent most of the day stationary but at least I had one.

Today started a bit better though I ended up being online all morning the website is visitable (though mac users beware it still needs tweeking.)

I left for town in the car unfortunately as I had time constraints. RPG subs had to be paid and I wanted to be early. 40mins in a queue and I can tell you that I can personally vouch for 7 members being paid up. The downside is I paid for 3, yes 3, of them.

I then walked through town and did my shopping. To be extra healthy when I needed a drink I went for a lovely berry blend of strawberry, rasberry and blueberry with applejuice and lowfat frozen yoghurt. Feel the natural goodness. I then went home.

ALl in all an ok restart to my 10000 step challenge even if today I only clocked up 5889 steps. Tomorrow I will get more hopefully. Erddig here we come (I've promised K a nationaltrust membership)

I have mixed feelings about last night. I'm not sure whether to be happy (because we did get rooms in the end) or a little put out.

To explain of the 32 signees we got 5. That's less than we had last year. Now I can blame it on a lot of things. One being that we actually clash with judo. Two the e-mail was sent out only on Monday (Due to the room issues). Three well that's where I'm stumped. We had so many actual roleplayers sign up I don't know what happened to them.

Anyway the ones that came seemed to enjoy themselves. Our taster sessions are continuing next week so those who didn't read their mail on time have a second chance.

I'm planning on running mutant evil plot next time so they should have a more structured story this time. Also less cold filled so will be cheerier.

*Bouncy Edit* Seems we've located four of the people who couldn't turn up. 1 did not read soon enough. 2 clashed and need another night and 1 poor little one the deserves our sympathies was ill.

Oh and our website (at college that is) is now up and can be updated and such yeah!
shazrasha: (Default)
Freshers fair has come and gone and our Roleplay & Games Society was more successful this year than ever. 32 brand spanking new signatures and most of those are actual interested parties!

Our taster sessions have been planned to a tea with Five dm's on standby on the off chance that we get ALL the players that said they would come. We've even made sure to cater for the battle gamers and card gamers this year in our tasters with skirmish games available for them. We booked the rooms (four in total though we increased this to six after demand) on wednesday last week.

Soraya and Katherine have been slaving over a really cool Buffy scenario that would make the big man proud. Also had I not heard all the details, and were not dming myself, I would have loved to play.

The e-mail has gone out with whats on offer and date and time. I even shook off the cold I've had all week. You'd think nothing could harm us now.

You would be wrong )

I'll tell you how it goes tomorrow.

In other news be careful what you use as an example when explaining words

Well I was updating my new Game Wiki, inspired by [livejournal.com profile] lucian_albrecht, and I realised I had to decide on how big my roleplaying world actually was.

Queue the complete lack of a clue to how big a country needs to be (after all they vary so much) and a question mark over how best to sum it up. So I decided to find out how big Wales was. It's a normal place to start, after all how often do you hear something compared to the size of Wales.

Well inputting my query into Google I found a certain site for all of those who find estimating sizes difficult. Recommended to people who think things aren't compared to Wales enough, here is the site that lets you take anything and convert it into Wales size pieces.

Teas so far: Two and counting.

Cut for very long explanations...

I can say it will be fine, it’s a beautiful lie )

The Further adventures of Blaze the mad tinker. )

Great escapes – Dusty the hamster has escaped again! This makes five times now. He never seems to use the same way twice. So having lost the hamster how to find him again? Solution look in the same place as usual. For some unknown reason he always escapes to the same place under the bed. To prove he’s a real RPG player’s hamster he was even asleep on top of my Warhammer box.

Tea’s so far: One so far…

It's that nagging feeling you get when you realise that you have a list of things to do a mile long and at least three people asking you to do other things. You are just about to sit down to a lovely cup of tea when you get dragged to your feet to go out (Having completely forgotten that you had been invited).
Add to this a seeming inability to sleep beyond six in the morning and you have one tired and harried person.

Not that I mind. I just wish I could sleep better is all.

Fortunately last night we roleplayed but not my game so no planning needed on my part. :)

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy )

First impressions )

’It’s scary, scary, hit me on the head, Yoda!’ )

We did get one dangerous encounter during the evening which showed why we were the dregs of our military's reserves but hey it was all round fun and I look forward to letting Blaze at the solar panels on the tower we found.

Teas so far: None, None, NONE. But it’s early yet.
shazrasha: (Default)
So you wake up and realise what a strange dream you truly had and then try to imagine what on earth caused it. Lack of sleep in my case always triggers the weirdest dreams and today was no exception.

See what I mean )

So anyway managed to go another step on my road to using up all the yeast I have by making a batch of Cinnamon buns but they didn't rise the second time. I really think my brother is better at making these than I am. This is the second time I've tried and they still are nothing like the ones we used to have. Though still nice. Anyhow still have yeast left so another culinary masterpiece is on the way possibly, it might flop a bit too. Tunnbröd here I come.

Teas so far: None *Sob* never have them in the morning of an early start. Will have to make up for it later.
