Anyway we spotted the rather obvious results of someone speeding on the road. My inner csi looked at the angle and worked out that this was what happened when you took a u-turn at too high a speed and overshoot the road. You can just make out that he avoided the lake/pond by a few mere feet.

I tried to be sensible last night and go to bed early enough to get a full nights sleep. Unfortunately my mind and body did not agree with me and I woke at least four times in the night and had various strange dreams that though coherent at the time are now slipping away from me...

To aid in my forcing me out of bed I even gave myself only 30 mins to get up and head for work. It was a good plan except I forgot that it was frosty at the moment and I reached the car to find it covered in swirly ice patterns. Pretty swirlly stubborn ice patterns that did not want to come off the car. I managed to scrape a small window for me to view through and decided to get in the car to see if that would be enough. Opened the driver's side door sat down closed the door. Thought I need to scrape a bit more and then discovered that the door would not open again...

Yes I could have clambered out another door with a bit of work but by then I would be late so I just decided to go for it. Fortunately the roads are real quiet at 4.30am.

So now here I sit with my stomach in turmoil, my head feeling woozy and with no desire to sit here for 6 hours with nothing to do...

It's now definately getting to the more wintery part of the year and I woke this morning to the cold and the frost.

The grass crunched wonderfully underfoot as I made my way to the car and unlocked the doors. I then proceeded to try every single one until I found one that opened. To make things interesting it was the back door behind the driver's seat. With my usual clambering I managed to lean into the front long enough to turn on the engine and all the heating and dig under the front passenger seat for my scraper.

I scraped all the windows and was amused and slightly annoyed to find I would have to take the scraper to the inside of the front window as well as outside. I then tried all the doors again. No luck.

So with my usual clambering I made it to the front seat where I scraped the window and waited until I could see through them enough to brave it to work.

I could fortunately open the driver's door when I got here. I was writing this watching the sun rise through the window at the far end of the room and thinking that last winter was not this cold. I base this supposition on the fact that I did not have to do the above maneuvour at all.

Here's to it being somewhat simpler tomorrow.

So I've scraped the car windows for the first time this year...ok the second but that was at 4.30 in the morning so doesn't really count. This was the first time in nice bright sunshine with a hazy mist lying all around.

If I'd had a third arm and eyes in the side of my head, I would have taken some very pretty photos on the way to work. The sky is mocking me by being shiny and blue and making me feel that sitting outside would still be warmer than by my desk right now.

I think the time has come for me to invest in a new warm winter coat. One I can take to work without feeling scruffy. Hmm...it's a pity I can't get away with wearing my cloak.

So today I went back to work after loosing the tail end of last week to the lurgy and hoping I could catch up without too much hassle.

To this end I was actually quite successful even if I did a self-imposed ban on artificer and anything else not work related.

I lasted until lunch, but forced myself to only have 15 minutes...the afternoon was a long dragged out affair because of it and I started to wonder what it was I actually enjoyed about my job. (This fluctuates from week to week. Some days I do, some days I really, really don't) Suffice to say I'm kind of on top of things now fortunately.

To top off the good girl vibes I then went food shopping and did my first proper meal since we returned from lalenth.

So now back to the froth and preparing the game I will be running tomorrow whether I am fully prepared or not...

It's been quite a while since I was ill quite this often (twice in four weeks is novel for me)...and I am not enjoying it. Lets be honest none of us really like being ill. You don't have the energy to do anything and if you did you feel guilty that you aren't doing what you should be.

With no real way of combatting my current cold, bar herbal teas (in large quantity) and the odd steaming of the brain, I've slowly made my way through most of the tissues in the house. The only thing that implies that I'm fighting back is my random lapses into sleep where my body pulls at my consciousness so hard that I can fall asleep in the middle of plot laden conversation, much to the amused annoyance of [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble who hadn't noticed, being behind her laptop screen at the time.

So it's Saturday...a slightly less guilt ridden day to be ill as I have no plans. My brother is on his way over with a shirt and jumper he's accidentally dyed pink, in the hope that I can accomplish some form of rescue. The living room looks like Larp exploded all over it and I'm wondering if I can muster the energy to do what I should have done on Monday to clean it away.

I'm bored as heck...Really. I've not the mental dexterity amongst all the cotton wool to do anything constructive and I'm beginning to feel isolated. Strange how being ill makes the time I would have been on my own anyway rather more boring than otherwise.

If you're online and fancy a chat it would certainly improve the outlook of my day. You needn't worry about me sounding pitiful as conversation always cheers me up, unless you phone me...my voice has gone funny and pitiful is a side effect. This is the main reason I thought work was a bit of a loss. Even if I could focus enough to do it, answering the phone would have been a disaster.

So I avoided the sniffles just up until yesterday when they attacked me in force. To be honest I'm not surprised as everyone at work has had them at somepoint and I've not only been in a field all weekend with Artificer people (who also seem to have a large helping of sniffles), I also haven't slept well at all since I returned.

Today I am therefore sitting at home trying desperately to think on things to do which don't envolve moving much. So plenty of haunting the Artificer Forum and working on my downtime.
With any luck by tomorrow the worst of it will be over...The cold not the downtime which I am enjoying immensely.

( Cut for randomness and length )

And boy was it hard trying to make sure I was referencing the right year...

Right, I am planning on being stressed this week and I thought it only right to warn people so they know what to expect when they talk to me...

I've got too much to do at work as I've got a project deadline this week and I'm checking my work and a collegue's who is on holiday.

I've got two outfits to finish for artificer. [livejournal.com profile] ammos has been great and leant me the perfect cloak to keep [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble warm so that's a little less stress for me. But I still have to do over 20 button holes...

I've got roleplay society on Tuesday when I will be running a taster game that I have yet to design or create anything for. (I will pull something out of a hat if I must).

That's what I'm allowed to do. If you find me doing something else tell me off. If I'm doing one of the above and you pester me. Be warned it might not be pretty. ;)

Talk to you next Monday again when I'm back from Artificer and my life is less of a stress fest.

Morning folks and welcome to this random entry into the life and times of my car, the shiny demon chariot.

I was having quite a pleasent morning today. I awoke if not more awake, at least less tired, than I've done all week. I was organised and already had lunch ready and I got everything together for what was going to be a pleasent romp in the countryside before work at 10.

[livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble has been looking after a friend's horse (Bessie) every morning this week and I decided to join her armed with a camera and my little visitor, Artie. It was nice, there was a pleasant breeze and Bessie agreed to be in photos. I then decided to work out a nice walk for the day. [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble suggested the roman bridges just down the road and with lots of time before work I had visions of a 45 minute walk in semi shade with a frog for company. Me in my work clothes and wellies.

( Then I put the key in my car door )

Two things I learnt from this morning.
1. Having Roadside assistance is good, and these guys really are as fast as they say.
2. A good map should always be in the car, as you are kind of stuck if you can't tell anyone where you are.

I'm in a happy mood this morning, despite being uber tired and not really wanting to head for work. It's not that I'm not enjoying it. I'm just not very motivated for it. :P

My healthy eating is going well, though again I'm reducing myself to salads at work. This more to my lack of organisation than lack of food. My brother accompanies every comment about losing a couple of pounds with "What again? You really need to stop losing all this money."

My current count for random passersby is 2 stone 9 lbs lighter, or 37 lbs lighter or 17kg lighter (depending on your frame of reference). I do my weigh ins on Thursday so this is last weeks total.

This has, as previously mentioned, had an effect on my clothes and this includes my work trousers that I stopped wearing as they were too small that are suddenly too large. *Sigh* The reason I'm smiling about it is that, other than being smaller, I'm also fairly nifty on a sewing machine if I have to be and they now fit ;)

So I now have work trousers that look good (well better than they did) and by the time I shrink out of them my new pair should hopefully fit me (as they are too small currently).

Oh and to keep me motivated I've joined up to a diet recipe swap on Craftster. I prefer to think of it as healthy eating but hey.

So I had to make sure that I was off work on the rigth day for Maelstrom's next event. I was prepared. I told work before I accepted the contract that I needed a day off to get to London. I even said it was near the end of July. I then gave them a date the 28th. I can hear horrifed gasps already... :P

Yeah [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble was good enough to set me straight and knock some sense into me so I revised my holiday application at work and they said it wasn't an issue. *Phew* I've now got the 20th of July off to drive down to the event.

I've however lost a week and am now panicking like mad to make sure my costume is all ready. Have to fix the eyes of my mask. Take in my tunic, check my armour, take in or remake my trousers...The usual maelstrom panic. And [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble's only comment "why do you have to redo your costume every time?!?"

So if you see me and I'm being lazy tell me off, please. I don't have time to be lazy ;)

So I had my very first day of my new job today and it certainly felt like a first day. Though minus the "cringe worthy mistakes stage".

I got shown around and made to feel rather uneducated language wise for the first time ever as almost every person we met had three or more languages under their belts. I then promptly got my confidence back when I whizzed through the basics of the job at high speed, prior experience winning out there.
There was an amusing moment on the tour as we went past one section in another department who were (and this was said with an offhand wave) just one language people a fact that set them apart from almost every other department there.

I've got my new e-mail address and have a preliminary desk. However I am no longer allowed on msn and the internet access is a lot stricter than before. Lunchtimes now the only time I "should be surfing personal sites". So for those that have me on their chat programs expect me to be online less. Good news for me however is that their is a microwave so I can finally take leftovers to work, Huzzah! That and the free coffee is at least decent now, though the tea is still brewed all wrong (read stewed tasting).

Oh and I'm still the only Swede on the helpdesk ;)

Now if I can just get myself back into a sleeping rhythm that doesn't get me up at 5.30 (my brain said it was a work day my body woke me up early) I'll be real happy.

PS I've already got time off to get to the next Maelstrom.

Not quite like toilet humour but funny in its own right.

It was freezing when I went into the bathroom yesterday. So cold that it was like using an outdoors loo. Apparently this had irked someone else so much that propped up behind the tap was a lovely printed note with a poem on it.

This poem extolled the virtues of being warm when using the facilities and pointed out that closing the window was the key. That and people not opening it again and thereby ruining the effort made.

Though I can't see why anyone should go to the effort to write a poem about it, I do think writing just for the sake of it is great. :) So a big thumbs up to whoever did it.

p.s. I really don't mind if the toilet is warm or cold...just as long as it works.

So day three rolled on with me waking up during wierd hotel related dreams and a shadow created by pale green light shining on the coat hanger making it look like the angel of the north.

( And the working day begins )

( Trains and Buses )

( 5 million bicycles... )

( Italy and Cornwall )

( Red lights and Canals )

I spent the latter part of the evening watching dutch tele and saw the American series Over There which was quite interesting and a little disconcerting as a watcher of Supernatural as a certain blonde girl was one of the female soldier...At least I think it was her. Wrote a bit more and then slept...Day 4 here we come.
shazrasha: (Doctor)
So I slept all right though the clock on the tv was very bright. Thankfully travelling with a small bear in my bag comes in handy and Sten stood between it and me for the rest of the night.

Breakfast was an interesting affair. It's not often I find myself having to pay 17 euros to eat what is essentially very much what you get at butlins, but with Dutch cheese. However sitting down to then be surrounded by a whole group who are travelling together just underlined how alone I felt. But at least I didn't go to work hungry.

( The Work side of things )

( Food issues )

Back in my hotel room I suddenly realised that they had completely replaced all the toiletries in the bathroom. How could I tell when I hadn't really used them? It was a different colour scheme. I started off in lilacs and was now presented with green and orange. I spent the evening watching Dutch tv again. In fact there is a soap that runs just before the CSI episodes that I am dying to work out the plot for as it seems very emotionally charged at the moment. I am starting to see why people sit watching them in foreign languages in sitcoms now. I also wrote with pen and paper, which was very relaxing. But tomorrow I am definately going to Amsterdam. Boredem is not fun.
shazrasha: (Doctor)
It's odd the feelings you have waiting for a trip, which you have not organised youself. Mostly I just felt nervous. Like [livejournal.com profile] midnightoak I am a nervous traveller much more settled once I'm on the way and can no longer influence the possibility of forgetting something.

( Getting to the plane )

( Lost Thoughts )

( Dutch )

( Put me down again )

( Feeding time at the zoo )

( Reaching the hotel )

Roll on Day two

PS Now watching crimewatch as I prepare to fall asleep...

So I am off on a business trip next week. Leaving Monday evening (27th) and returning Friday lunchtime (1st).

It will be the first official all expenses paid business trip and the only one I will do before I change my job.

Anyhow this means I will be in Amsterdam, to be more precise Schipol, with nothing to do in the evenings. So any ideas are helpful. I will be on my own so I need things I am confident doing on my own or a chaperone ;)
shazrasha: (Doctor)
It is really time for me to start to look for work again. I have sort of been looking for a new job the past few months but without much enthusiasm or luck.

For those not in the know I am being outsourced :P

My contract runs out in two months so it really is time I pulled my socks up and looked. You never know, there might be other positions within my company I can take that will still exist when this helpdesk is gone. We'll see...

In an effort to help me look for work I have set myself a calendar reminder that once a day will go off and ask "Have you looked for a job yet today?"

Hopefully this will prod me enough to actually do it and I will be able to find something so I don't end up seated at home alone again. Slight problem being I'm not sure what I want to do next...
