There was a field, there was wood, tents, and rope. I helped rope together some of the arena. I watched meteorites cross the milky way and gave an impromptu astronomy lesson. I found a bruise that had nothing to do with helping on my arm. I watched makeshift wasp traps be set up and incense burned and first aid smoked out. I helped in GOD with some other tremendously organised people. I was cheerful at players all night long as we all worked out what we were doing.
I went to bed, I got up and got into kit. I was made to look deathly pale when I've been the most tanned I've been in ages. We marshaled people, organised bouts, changed banners, dragged injured around. We did admin, handed out results. I was a cloak for an evening. I went to bed.
We did it again faster, in more detail and with bigger fights. Cheering, heckling and more. And then it ended and we packed up and I headed home.

There are many things that can be said about the weekend I will take from it this:

The pride I felt when I was told by various people that they used the arena banners, battles and schedule as a clock.
The fact that many people I know enjoyed themselves
Oh and the image of me bouncing about ordering large blood covered warriors around whilst having 'Taylor the Latte Boy' on loop in my head. (This song has no relevance to odyssey other than being super catchy.)

There is nothing that makes me more aggravated than having a long list of things to do and suddenly falling ill. Getting hit by an inner ear infection only two weeks from my deadlines took 5 days of crafting time from me.

I'm nothing if not stubborn and focused when on short deadlines however. That and I seem to have an insanely high hit rate for things I make up as I go along.
An Example of such a success )

So I have actually managed to be organised for this Maelstrom and all, Yes that is right ALL, my sewing is actually already done. *Smug* This is of course ignoring the sewing of armour to trousers which I always do at events...

In fact our mokosh Bruce is also almost done, just a few minor finishing touches, oh and the teeth that apparently I need to give him according to the costume guide for mokosh and gnolls. Prominent incisors needed...

Not only did I finish all the new things I was supposed to make, two tunics and a cloak, I also fixed or well hid the burn mark on my tunic. However I also realised that I had to take the tunic in yet again. I thought it fit rather well until I took it in and went "oh that's why it looked wrinkly..."

Now all I need to do is find my rivets so I can deal with the armour.

Today was an ish day at work. Meaning I was only thereish mentally for most of the day. The rest of the time I was sitting with Kerrigan composing yet more Artificer Poetry which will no doubt be aired at somepoint.

I came home to the task of finding a craft I could fit into the small space before slimming world and the cinema. So I decided to take apart and resew one of the four men's shirts I bought on the basis that their shirts are more military colours than what I can find elsewhere. In an effort not to feel like I was wasting my time I picked the least nice shirt to start with. Turns out I had to do a little more adjusting than I thought and, despite removing almost 3 inches out of the back of the shirt it's still longer than the front...

I've now got it finished in what can roughly be said to be 1h 20 mins and it well sort of looks fine...I can't really tell seeing as I am still lacking in that rather useful thing 'A full length mirror'. Ah well at worst it looks a little untailored and at best I have some shirts I feel happy wearing out instead of my nice ones. I've worn worse fitting shirts to work and with my expanding waistcoat section I can hide ill fitted bits.

Now on to one of my other 12 projects that I started...or was it 14? One of them has been completely abandonned as I am without the right tools the rest as getting there bit by bit.

So I've been feeling a bit all over the place really. Riftworld is this weekend and I've not planned anything for it at all. I don't even know what I'm wearing...

I came home today after being more tired than I really aught to let myself become and decide that that's it. I'm feeling overly stressed and need to do something for me. I am therefore sewing. I have an idea for a jacket and I'm trying to see if I can make it. I have no pattern as such just another coat I own and random material. However I also want to wear this jacket for Riftworld...so yeah the stress is back. But it's good stress.

I've so far got two thirds of a jacket and still need to find the time to nikwax it so I can be rained on...Me, insane? Of course. See some of you on Friday, with or without the jacket.

EDIT: Right outside part and lining done. Just need to sew them together and add button holes and buttons. I'm off to bed...

I am currently relaxed on the sofa with my laptop, feeling the stiffness of a weekend of crewing at Serenity.

It was a new experience crewing and to say there weren't a few moments when I wondered what the heck I was doing, would be a lie. Like when I had to spend 20 odd minutes pretending to be stuck in a lift down a mine shaft. But all in all I really enjoyed facilitating the chances of the players getting shot at and at as little cost as possible. Getting my random minor background npc promoted from random safety inspector to Militia member and vice member of the planet's co-operative board was a rather interesting move partway through Saturday. They needed someone in authority and hey, safety and security, they're roughly the same thing. ;)

In a random feat of wardobe ingenuity I managed to remain mainly in the clothing I turned up in on Friday. In fact I cycled through several NPCs whose main defining distinction was which waistcoat and jacket I was wearing.

Highlight of the weekend was the snow that started to fall partway through Sunday morning and became a rather fitting backdrop to what was essentially "the coldest planet in the verse".

In an effort to counteract the sci-fi I've just finished watching the first episode of 'Cranford' a BBC adaption of a book by Elizabeth Cleghorn Gaskell. It's an amusing little comedy of manners and I knew I'd enjoy it when I heard the line "Her writing is ever so energetic, there are even exclamation marks".
shazrasha: (jenkins beware)
So I wrote on my Facebook yesterday that I was expecting strange dreams and strange dreams I had.

It became a whole jumbled mixture of all the things I talked about and looked at just before heading to bed after finally fixing my external harddrive so I can listen to my music¹.

So there I am trying to run a devious mind warping rpg game in my Dad's house (because why would I be where I should be) with my Dad and friends playing loud classical music and mandolins in the living room.
I was also trying my best to make sure that someone² (who I confess I've never met in a non larp capacity) relax and not do anything stressful whilst showing random and silly toys to them and my players...Well it's a change from the police/ murder investigation with added ansgt I had the night before.

¹ For those interested in these things it turned out to be a loss of permissions. Fixed it by reclaiming ownership of the drive. The scan only found 4kb of corrupt space so was a huge waste of time.

² No, I do not plan on clarifying...
shazrasha: (Doctor)
So I have two days in lieu of the weekend that I am working. That's tomorrow and Friday just so you know. I've decided (now that I'm healthy and full of random energy) to create a list of things I really need to do and see how far I get. I'm putting it up here for general amusement and the fact that I can't lose this page but never find that scrap of paper I wrote things on. So in no particular order...

Cut for waffly length )

Right we'll see how far I get

I am getting rather fed up of loosing writing and snippets of things just because my computer decides to have a fit and shut down a program without saving...

I've just lost all the IC artificer conversation I was hoarding from the past few days.

It's partially my own fault for not saving it sooner but DAMMMIT, it shouldn't be that easy to do...
shazrasha: (upgrade)
It's been quite a while since I was ill quite this often (twice in four weeks is novel for me)...and I am not enjoying it. Lets be honest none of us really like being ill. You don't have the energy to do anything and if you did you feel guilty that you aren't doing what you should be.

With no real way of combatting my current cold, bar herbal teas (in large quantity) and the odd steaming of the brain, I've slowly made my way through most of the tissues in the house. The only thing that implies that I'm fighting back is my random lapses into sleep where my body pulls at my consciousness so hard that I can fall asleep in the middle of plot laden conversation, much to the amused annoyance of [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble who hadn't noticed, being behind her laptop screen at the time.

So it's Saturday...a slightly less guilt ridden day to be ill as I have no plans. My brother is on his way over with a shirt and jumper he's accidentally dyed pink, in the hope that I can accomplish some form of rescue. The living room looks like Larp exploded all over it and I'm wondering if I can muster the energy to do what I should have done on Monday to clean it away.

I'm bored as heck...Really. I've not the mental dexterity amongst all the cotton wool to do anything constructive and I'm beginning to feel isolated. Strange how being ill makes the time I would have been on my own anyway rather more boring than otherwise.

If you're online and fancy a chat it would certainly improve the outlook of my day. You needn't worry about me sounding pitiful as conversation always cheers me up, unless you phone me...my voice has gone funny and pitiful is a side effect. This is the main reason I thought work was a bit of a loss. Even if I could focus enough to do it, answering the phone would have been a disaster.

So I avoided the sniffles just up until yesterday when they attacked me in force. To be honest I'm not surprised as everyone at work has had them at somepoint and I've not only been in a field all weekend with Artificer people (who also seem to have a large helping of sniffles), I also haven't slept well at all since I returned.

Today I am therefore sitting at home trying desperately to think on things to do which don't envolve moving much. So plenty of haunting the Artificer Forum and working on my downtime.
With any luck by tomorrow the worst of it will be over...The cold not the downtime which I am enjoying immensely.

Cut for randomness and length )

And boy was it hard trying to make sure I was referencing the right year...

Alternatively that could be fleet of foot and sore of mind.

Souvenirs of my weekend at artificer were an inordinate amount of nat bites down both sides of my head and over both shoulders.

I had read my character brief before I turned up (I play a noble of one of the six houses) and other information as to the state of matters however, nothing prepared me for the amount of running, comforting, diplomacy and plain having to smooth over other people's indiscretions I ended up doing.

Favoured parts of the weekend were:
Randomly having no servants and being so concerned for my lady that I delved into the cellars myself for her drink.
The surprise, amusement and plain gratitude that occured whenever I appeared at my lady's side with a tissue before she had the chance to request it.
Having my head of house ask my "sister" where I was, be pointed in my direction. Have her give me a puzzled look, then go. "No, that is a man, where is your sister?"
Having an important conversation, having the plotref over to ask something and then watching her dance away with glee.

Right, I am planning on being stressed this week and I thought it only right to warn people so they know what to expect when they talk to me...

I've got too much to do at work as I've got a project deadline this week and I'm checking my work and a collegue's who is on holiday.

I've got two outfits to finish for artificer. [livejournal.com profile] ammos has been great and leant me the perfect cloak to keep [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble warm so that's a little less stress for me. But I still have to do over 20 button holes...

I've got roleplay society on Tuesday when I will be running a taster game that I have yet to design or create anything for. (I will pull something out of a hat if I must).

That's what I'm allowed to do. If you find me doing something else tell me off. If I'm doing one of the above and you pester me. Be warned it might not be pretty. ;)

Talk to you next Monday again when I'm back from Artificer and my life is less of a stress fest.
shazrasha: (jenkins beware)
So most of those who read my previous post will know I'm working this weekend. Stupidly early as well. This has however left me with two days off in the week instead which has been a bit novel.

Thursday I rose early and played some Zelda: Twilight Princess, while I put some washing on. I then started on [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble's swish dress for Artificer. Determined not to let the after affects of my mild fever on Monday/Tuesday get in the way I whipped the main body of the thing together while listening to David Tennant reading Doctor Who and the Feast of the Drowned.
The material frayed like mad so my first stop when I restart will be to zigzag everything *yawn*... However it fit first time without need for adjustments.
To end the day we went to the cinema and watched 'Run, Fat Boy, Run'

Today I again rose early and proceeded to play some Zelda (with washing on again) but abandonned it a bit faster as I had promised to tidy the living room a bit. In a fit of annoyance or determination (hard to tell the two apart sometimes) I started by clearing the entire hallway and hoovering it and then culled all the shoes and coats so that it can be used by guests again and finding my jacket will be easier (there were 2 of mine to about maybe 14 odd for [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble, or at least that's how it felt as I removed them). I then did the living room before eating and going shopping. Took the glass recycling with me as I watched the men go past the window this morning and I'd forgotten they were coming...
I came back and proceeded to strip the kitchen. I can now see all my tea tins again!
So now I'm waiting for [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble to get home so she can make me the cup of tea I really deserve. I'd do it myself but I'm feeling a bit lazy now.
shazrasha: (Doctor)
So I had to make sure that I was off work on the rigth day for Maelstrom's next event. I was prepared. I told work before I accepted the contract that I needed a day off to get to London. I even said it was near the end of July. I then gave them a date the 28th. I can hear horrifed gasps already... :P

Yeah [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble was good enough to set me straight and knock some sense into me so I revised my holiday application at work and they said it wasn't an issue. *Phew* I've now got the 20th of July off to drive down to the event.

I've however lost a week and am now panicking like mad to make sure my costume is all ready. Have to fix the eyes of my mask. Take in my tunic, check my armour, take in or remake my trousers...The usual maelstrom panic. And [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble's only comment "why do you have to redo your costume every time?!?"

So if you see me and I'm being lazy tell me off, please. I don't have time to be lazy ;)
shazrasha: (Demon Angel)
So it's the second day after Maelstrom and I am now suitably awake enough to write down what I enjoyed about my event.

Let me prepare some basic Warrior's fare )

I sparred with my mask for the first time and was surprisingly good enough to hold my own against my sparring partner, practise that came in handy later but that's Foip. I found an armourer who enthused like mad about my beak armour and my hands and was all enthusiastic about the idea of making a helmet for avian battle or a beak tip. He was impressed with how obviously build for battle I was compared to other avians.

¹ Find Out In Play, for those not used to Larp speak. Is used for everything that we think you need to work at to find. Randomly I have also started using this to refer to my normal RPG character info.

² You will have to scroll down past the reindeer skin to see it.
shazrasha: (upgrade)
I feel like I haven't posted anything for ages. Which is probably true as I've had a headache for a long while that obviously is not condusive to sitting infront of a screen.

However I thought now that I have a few moments I would jot down a few words inbetween my crazy crafting and Maelstrom Panic.

I've as stated before had great success with my loosing weight. I hit the 10 kilo mark last thursday (that's about 1 stone 8 lbs for you people who don't know kilos).

So I thought I best make sure that my maelstrom stuff didn't need adjusting. The tunic had been fitted just before the last event but seemed fine.
It never occured to me that I might have huge problems with my armour until I decided to check it just to be on the safe side.

Oh my! A few good swings of my arm and the shoulder piece slides loose and I'm looking at tightening ALL the straps. Armour that fit perfectly on me last event is now tightened as much as the straps will allow and just end up tight enough. I can forsee me having to make major adjustments when I loose more weight. Ah well, it's a price I'm willing to pay.

I'm also at the same time trying to work out the plot for a story that involves more indepth looks at the phsycology of the human mind than I had intended. I'm also not a sociologist so have to look at that as well. Now if I could just decide on what the plot will actually be...
shazrasha: (upgrade)
It's been a while since I had a dream that I could remember. To then be blessed with such vivid ones that just deserve to be written down is great. Though I will have to explain a few things to make it completely understandable for the non-swedes and the swedes who haven't seen that particular advert :P

Pejl Igen )

Pejl Igen - explanation )

Maelstrom antics )

So yes letters need to be written and I will try to get it all done today with everything else...I'll be hairing around like a mad woman as usual.
shazrasha: (Default)
So I have been away all weekend at Maelstrom doing the usual camping out.

I can't really discuss what happened other than intrigue, death, lots of killing and all hell breaking loose. Randomly none of the death came our way.

It was around six in the evening when we finally managed to start our way back and the traffic was fairly light for an Easter Monday.

The drive was fairly boring with only a bog standard idiot who tried to cut me up. However, as I was driving along in the middle lane I saw a row of three motorway police behind me. The car behind me over takes and the three Police cars continue in the right hand lane. The front one drops inbetween me and a blue hatchback letting the others continue on. Suddenly the second car drops in front of the blue car the lights go on and they escort the car calmly to the side. The third police car keeping one lane to the right of them at all times.

It was over in a matter of seconds and so very slick...

Now if only I could get rid of my stiffness and I would be a completely happy bunny.
