So yes I said I only had one project left to do for Maelstrom. An easy project now that I've spent time thinking about it and working out how to remake my armour so that it fit. I even have a week in which to work...However I still haven't found my rivets. Trying to decide whether to let it stress me or not. Place your bets now...

It's one small bag of rivet tops in one large room of crafting supplies...if I'm lucky. If I'm unlucky they could be anywhere.

In good news I managed to find the details for Le Prevo who were the place I got them from in the first place. A place whose customer service extended to calling me to point out that I needed longer rivets for my bosses and made sure I had enough for what I wanted.
However I doubt that I can get the rivets on time if I reorder them. This is more for buying new ones if I can't find them after the event. It can't be that hard to find them can it?

So I have actually managed to be organised for this Maelstrom and all, Yes that is right ALL, my sewing is actually already done. *Smug* This is of course ignoring the sewing of armour to trousers which I always do at events...

In fact our mokosh Bruce is also almost done, just a few minor finishing touches, oh and the teeth that apparently I need to give him according to the costume guide for mokosh and gnolls. Prominent incisors needed...

Not only did I finish all the new things I was supposed to make, two tunics and a cloak, I also fixed or well hid the burn mark on my tunic. However I also realised that I had to take the tunic in yet again. I thought it fit rather well until I took it in and went "oh that's why it looked wrinkly..."

Now all I need to do is find my rivets so I can deal with the armour.

So things that occured to me to just say because I'm knackered without having had the benefit of being up late and am in bed with a laptop on my knee.

* Training people who are actually interested and understand what you are on about makes a huge difference. I rather like it. I actually want to do it again.

* [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble thinks I haven't done anything to deserve being ill so I am forbidden from getting the lurgy damn it! But she's not getting me tea unless I can convincingly prove that I am 100% well.

* It still surprises me every time someone likes something I made. Especially when it comes out slightly wrong.

* The Babylon 5 pilot isn't as bad as I remember it but really isn't good either. I only have and watch it for completism.

* If my Maelstrom character dies I have insane ideas about being a travelling tea seller with "tea for every occasion"

* I can write very depressing poetry for someone who is mostly cheery :)

So I have two days in lieu of the weekend that I am working. That's tomorrow and Friday just so you know. I've decided (now that I'm healthy and full of random energy) to create a list of things I really need to do and see how far I get. I'm putting it up here for general amusement and the fact that I can't lose this page but never find that scrap of paper I wrote things on. So in no particular order...

Cut for waffly length )

Right we'll see how far I get
shazrasha: (Default)
So yeah Maelstrom has now come and gone and I have nothing to tell that isn't completely FOIP except that the Saturday was fun for me as the only time I left the vicinity of our tent I got rained in, in someone elses at the far end of the camp...

So I'll tell you about the other things that amused me. Such as turning up, finding our governor and being told, "God, you're skinny". Such a boost to my slimming ego. Helps that my tunic for running around in and my emergency bought black jeans are as skin tight as I could get them and still wear. :P
Which means no need to adjust it for next event. Though my armour needs a complete redo.

Service stations have strange advertising in their loos...like *whisper* ). Also, for some strange reason that is beyond me, Keele services going north seems to have the petrol station before the parking for going to the food and toilets not after. Which meant I had to drive to the next one in order to get petrol.

Since getting back I've not done much. It's rather strange having nothing pressing to do. Though the sooner I fix the issues with my armour the better. Also with new recruits possible I need to help them with their kit so they fit in...

I had a wierd dream last night with a boat that was a castle, and strange cooks and staff who were soem alien thing possibly similar but more sinister than the Slitheen. There were pig pens involved and gold. A load of royal carriages and I had to save the British Queen and randomly the king of Siam from being eaten by them...It's no wonder I feel tired this morning.

On an end note this was in a communication to me recently "and consider alternative means of communication (pear to pear/managerial feedback, team meeting discussion, quiz question, etc.)" My only thought was that I think writing on pears and passing them round would be both sticky and the notes wouldn't last long as they succumb to rotting...

I know most of you will no doubt find me rambling on about how much I've done rather boring but for the one or possibly two who are interested I'm documenting it anyway :P

So I managed to get one more thing done before I went to bed, filling the herb bottles. I almost forgot that I needed salt but saved myself at the last moment. So go me there is stuff to flavour the bbq with. I've also picked out what material to make the herb bottle holder out of so I can sew it later today.

This morning to make up for a slight lack in enthusiasm yesterday I made two new eyes for my mask, reglued some loose feathers and checked that my armour still fit. The armour looks quite alright for something that is a little big and I just need to trim round my arm so that it doesn't buckle so much when I bend it.

I also filled the charcoal sack and ended up with black all up my arms and on the top of the sack too so it looks even more IC. I'm a little worried that I haven't brought enough charcoal but I think that is more because I wont have a huge bag to fall back on. Shouldn't be a problem anyway. I didn't use that much last time.

Right to my training.
shazrasha: (Default)
SO I'm a little further down my too do list. I've sorted through my chest of items, only putting what is absolutely necessary back into it.

I've sewn two waterproof hessian sacks for the kindling and Charcoal because who needs wet fuel on a rainy campsite? Plus all IC looking too so doesn't seem strange next to the firepit. ;)

Then I've started to take in my tunic. Slight issues taking in the back however as I'm not a contortionist and I can't see behind me. :/ Trying to work out how to adjust it and who would be best of helping me as it's not exactly straightforward.

So just deciding what task to tackle next. My trousers or something else...
shazrasha: (Doctor)
So it's four days to Maelstrom and I'm in the process of working down my Maelstrom to do list. I had sixteen items on my list when I first wrote it. And I've four evenings in which to get things done.

So what have I managed so far? Well, I'm currently in the process of cleaning the living room. Why is that LARP related I hear you ask. There is nothing like coming back from a larp to a clean house and the knowledge that we only need to put the larp kit away and then relax...or sleep which is more likely.

I've also found my cloak that I forgot last time. As the likely weather is going to be rain I'm thinking I might need the cloak to keep warm as we won't be able to have as much open flame.

And lastly I've prepared and frozen what I will be cooking for us all on Friday night. All pre-chopped and pre-seasoned so that all that needs to be done on Friday is put the firepit together, get the coals lit and stirfry it all. Fast camping food mmmm...I'll be prechopping some veg on Thursday to save time while on site as well. Lets see if I can't do better food wise than last time ;)
shazrasha: (Doctor)
So I had to make sure that I was off work on the rigth day for Maelstrom's next event. I was prepared. I told work before I accepted the contract that I needed a day off to get to London. I even said it was near the end of July. I then gave them a date the 28th. I can hear horrifed gasps already... :P

Yeah [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble was good enough to set me straight and knock some sense into me so I revised my holiday application at work and they said it wasn't an issue. *Phew* I've now got the 20th of July off to drive down to the event.

I've however lost a week and am now panicking like mad to make sure my costume is all ready. Have to fix the eyes of my mask. Take in my tunic, check my armour, take in or remake my trousers...The usual maelstrom panic. And [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble's only comment "why do you have to redo your costume every time?!?"

So if you see me and I'm being lazy tell me off, please. I don't have time to be lazy ;)

So I had my very first day of my new job today and it certainly felt like a first day. Though minus the "cringe worthy mistakes stage".

I got shown around and made to feel rather uneducated language wise for the first time ever as almost every person we met had three or more languages under their belts. I then promptly got my confidence back when I whizzed through the basics of the job at high speed, prior experience winning out there.
There was an amusing moment on the tour as we went past one section in another department who were (and this was said with an offhand wave) just one language people a fact that set them apart from almost every other department there.

I've got my new e-mail address and have a preliminary desk. However I am no longer allowed on msn and the internet access is a lot stricter than before. Lunchtimes now the only time I "should be surfing personal sites". So for those that have me on their chat programs expect me to be online less. Good news for me however is that their is a microwave so I can finally take leftovers to work, Huzzah! That and the free coffee is at least decent now, though the tea is still brewed all wrong (read stewed tasting).

Oh and I'm still the only Swede on the helpdesk ;)

Now if I can just get myself back into a sleeping rhythm that doesn't get me up at 5.30 (my brain said it was a work day my body woke me up early) I'll be real happy.

PS I've already got time off to get to the next Maelstrom.
shazrasha: (Demon Angel)
So it's the second day after Maelstrom and I am now suitably awake enough to write down what I enjoyed about my event.

Let me prepare some basic Warrior's fare )

I sparred with my mask for the first time and was surprisingly good enough to hold my own against my sparring partner, practise that came in handy later but that's Foip. I found an armourer who enthused like mad about my beak armour and my hands and was all enthusiastic about the idea of making a helmet for avian battle or a beak tip. He was impressed with how obviously build for battle I was compared to other avians.

¹ Find Out In Play, for those not used to Larp speak. Is used for everything that we think you need to work at to find. Randomly I have also started using this to refer to my normal RPG character info.

² You will have to scroll down past the reindeer skin to see it.
shazrasha: (upgrade)
I feel like I haven't posted anything for ages. Which is probably true as I've had a headache for a long while that obviously is not condusive to sitting infront of a screen.

However I thought now that I have a few moments I would jot down a few words inbetween my crazy crafting and Maelstrom Panic.

I've as stated before had great success with my loosing weight. I hit the 10 kilo mark last thursday (that's about 1 stone 8 lbs for you people who don't know kilos).

So I thought I best make sure that my maelstrom stuff didn't need adjusting. The tunic had been fitted just before the last event but seemed fine.
It never occured to me that I might have huge problems with my armour until I decided to check it just to be on the safe side.

Oh my! A few good swings of my arm and the shoulder piece slides loose and I'm looking at tightening ALL the straps. Armour that fit perfectly on me last event is now tightened as much as the straps will allow and just end up tight enough. I can forsee me having to make major adjustments when I loose more weight. Ah well, it's a price I'm willing to pay.

I'm also at the same time trying to work out the plot for a story that involves more indepth looks at the phsycology of the human mind than I had intended. I'm also not a sociologist so have to look at that as well. Now if I could just decide on what the plot will actually be...
shazrasha: (upgrade)
It's been a while since I had a dream that I could remember. To then be blessed with such vivid ones that just deserve to be written down is great. Though I will have to explain a few things to make it completely understandable for the non-swedes and the swedes who haven't seen that particular advert :P

Pejl Igen )

Pejl Igen - explanation )

Maelstrom antics )

So yes letters need to be written and I will try to get it all done today with everything else...I'll be hairing around like a mad woman as usual.
shazrasha: (upgrade)
So I decided that this year was going to be my year of making my Maelstrom costume cooler than it had been before. My previous costume being more a hurriedly sewn tunic that made me look very square and garnered quite a few Sirs from those unable to see my face under the mask. Which, for those of you who know what I look like you'll realise how bad that really is.

So I decided that despite my cold I would do a valiant effort and start on my sewing yesterday.

shopping list )

So I stopped off at hobbycraft thinking I could knock a few things off my list. I've never been more disappointed in my life. I can't believe that when I asked if they had rivets they didn't even know what I was talking about. So I left there having only bought the thread for zigzaging. Fortunately there is enough time for drastic measures. [livejournal.com profile] lucian_albrecht has promised to take time out of his packing to pop into town for a metre of linen to post me. I have also gotten into a conversation with the other larp person at work and he's given me lovely links for finding everything else from British companies :D
So now I'm placing orders and hoping things will arrive before I leave for the event.
shazrasha: (Doctor)
Ok so technically my Monday hasn't been that manic just yet. But I still have the evening to come and I might just be really focused and get soem stuff done.

Inpired by [livejournal.com profile] midnightoak I've decided to make a list ). This mainly to have the satisfaction of crossing things off :D

In other news I am fed up of not taking my health seriously so I am going to see about joining Slimmers world. because I already know that I'm not motivated enough to get myself going on my own. Fortunately their method of food control is eat as much as you want of the healthy stuff so no actual dieting going on. To make it better I'm even walking there so I can feel a little more active and less like I rely on my car, should only take me 20 mins. The meeting is on Tuesday so more on that later in the week.

I've also organised to go play badminton on Wednesday which is something that I have seriously been missing. I do so enjoy the sport.
