Every Dog Has His Day

shazrashaI spent most of yesterday evening working on preparing my characters for a return to Tintar and creating the character sheet for a 'new' character joining the group.
Having succeeded at a personal quest and impressed the ruling party of the civilisation they were in, the City Soul of the group was asked to release her/his/its(there is a lot of confusion about this) animal companion. The riding dog was then Awakened as a gift.
Suffice to say I then had to create a character sheet for the dog, especially as a player was found to play him so the City Soul player did not have to play two people at once. (Something I would not have allowed anyway).
It's a bit disconcerting however to find that the awakened dog is now the most intelligent member of your party. Also he's level 8 (this took a lot of working out and all I can say is Thank you Savage Species...they have lovely guides in there for skill points and feats and comments on balancing. I had great fun putting together a list of feats and class abilities for him that fit in with the idea that he's been a riding dog for all his levels. A bit of flanging and giving of ranger and druid skills, which did not need opposable thumbs and that logically a dog could have learned while still a dog, and voila we had one playable character. I've no idea if his sheet is balanced but it sure isn't overly powerful for the level he is (at worst he might be weak - but with the best natural AC of the group, he's not dying any time soon).
Now we just need to decide what his future will be like... that and the City Soul now needs an animal companion...I've been stubborn and refused to allow another dog or riding beast...the dire bat's right out also...The size of a horse!!! We'll see what she/he/it comes up with as we've been looking at the smaller flying creatures.
