So I started sewing my trousers yesterday thinking that if I didn't I would have nothing to wear.

So working out the whole order for sewing things together was a bit tricky. I had no pattern having just taken apart a pair of jeans I had made too many holes in.

It all seemed to be going so well and then I tried them on.

Sob - Now I am depressed as, well, I can't decide which scenario I would prefer.

1. The trousers I used were too small (only by like [.........] this much before I took them apart which means I gained weight :(

2. I sewed it together in a way that made is smaller despite the pattern - Personally I don't think I could mess up that badly.

3. I cut them out wrong but again don't think that is likely as I was probably over generous in parts to avoid such an issue.

Conclusion - well as they aren't fully sewn up yet and I have material left I will probably be able to enlarge them slightly until I loose the weight. Provided of course that the jeans last that long :P
At least they look good on me, it's just the pockets that are showing their insides a bit. Hmm will have to think on this before I cut out the parts for the next pair.

I think it may only be fact that you are taking apart and sewing again. I tried to make a skirt from a couple of pants actually too large and it became too small around my "backside". Don't know why. You really need to be overgenerous and then add some more when sewing stuff. I never managed to get anything to really fit me when I have tried to sew stuff. I've given up! But keep trying you, you seem to be skilled in it.

That is a bit odd. Though it may just be the type of fabric you have used. The original may just have had more give in it, so that this time it doesn't stretch wuite as far. Often changing fabrics causes more issues than you originally think. Especially when stretch is involved.

If the originals were stretch jeans (or jeans with give) and your new fabric is corduroy, which has little to no give, I would say that that is what is the problem, and you haven't changed at all. :D
