So yes this is an update of what I did yesterday...
I woke from a disturbing Doctor Who dream. Disturbing because I (in the role of David Tennant) was unable to rescue any of the people in the dream as one after the other they turned into Frankenstein's monster type creatures and lumbered after me and the other survivor. Rose, as is fitting considering the end of the last series, did not figure in my dream. The last image I have burned in my mind is of me having to take the Tardis away and seeing the woman I was trying to save not make it in the door in time. And then an angry me/doctor who returning, frustrated at not being able to save them.
It was however all kinds of Doctor Who crazy fun... and felt like it could have been an episode of the show. Apparently my brain does a good Doctor Who impression. ;)
I got up early as I had promised to fetch my dad from the airport. I really needn't have bothered...
The drive was a lot shorter than I thought it would be. Yes I overestimated but then I have never driven to Manchester Airport myself before. My dad's flight is supposed to land at 7.10am I am there by 6.40am. Not to worry, I think, decent enough time to be in advance. I can afford the slight extra money for parking...Then I see when the flight is due 8.55! (Bad fog in Chicago I found out later)
It is surprising how quiet Terminal 3 is on a wednesday morning. In order to sustain myself for the next few hours I took a jaunt to Terminal 1, which is not only more crowded but also has more shops. I immediately zoomed in on the bookshop and was slightly dissappointed with the lack of books that I feel I can spend money on. Plenty for me to read but my hard earned cash has to be pulled from me for a book I know nothing about. I eventually left clutching a copy of Temeraire by Naomi Novak - Dragons and Napoleonic warfare and The Broker by John Grisham - A spy book whose author's notes state (If anything is vaguely accutate it's probably a mistake). I only have the second book as it was get one book get another half price. A good thing really as I proceeded to get fruit juice over it making it no longer valid as a possible gift to someone should I not like it.
I promptly found a seat back at terminal 3 and read until my dad showed up. Price of the car park £7.50 ugh.
My woes weren't quite over there.
My dad had left his car with us while he was away and he set about starting it while I got changed for work. My hopes for a speedy getaway were dashed as I heard him try to start the engine.
After a few tries he gave up at stated we would have to roll start it. It took both of us to get it to leave the comfy position it had taken next to our house. But then I sat in the front trying to get the engine to jump into action. We got round the corner when I realised that Dad would have to take the seat as I had no idea what I was meant to be doing. His comment "You won't be able to move the car and me as well." Pah! A few moments later positions switched we had the car rolling down the road again. At a reasonable speed for leg power if I do say so myself. We had to stop when we reached the junction but suddenly it decided to actually start. Not wanting to wait Dad took his things and went, arriving home safely a while later. I then proceeded to go to work.
My evening was a lot more pleasant with us getting that elusive thing 'guests'. I got called in advance to find out if we were still meeting up and I just commented that I am the last person to ever know and as far as I was concerned at some point every wednesday night bodies would pour into the house. Got to bed later than I should have but am only as tired as I usually am today so hopefully it should not be a problem, though it has made me very peckish.

Date: 2006-09-14 11:57 am (UTC)I am enjoying the book and the set up and world are very well represented. I like how the dragons have been slipped into the world in a they have always been around sort of way. That and there are different breeds and such...
I would recommend a read of the book. (as I only have the first so far can't comment on the others) but you are welcome to borrow mine when I am done.
