So I've been out to dinner a lot this past weekend, something that presents [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble with one of the few occasions when she gets nervous about what I am likely to do.

Thursday we decided to take our invading Swede to dinner with my brother, so poor [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble was outnumbered 3 Swedes to 1. We ordered our meal and in an attempt to be good I ordered a pot of tea. A few moments later some glasses were brought with a cup and one of those teapots that generally hold two cups. Imagine mine and [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble's horror when I took the top of the pot and discovered the thing barely half full!

Now, it must be said that mine and [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble's horror were for two seperate reasons. Mine was for the distinct lack of tea in my pot. [livejournal.com profile] choccoweeble's was for the sudden realisation of what I was about to do as the waitress returned...Leaning over hurriedly she hissed "Be British!" at me. Now I have never been one to not take instruction well so I curbed my instinct to complain about the abhorrent lack of tea and simply asked the waitress if it "would be possible have some more hot water."

I think I did rather well though I am having the niggling feeling that I might have forgotten to say please...ah well, the waitress was foreign anyway ;)

On a semi related note we were in a restaurant on Saturday and had a lovely waitress who, partway through taking our orders, went "Pay attention children!" in a firm tone and then, as the heads at the end of the table looked up at her from their chattering, she grinned adding "Works every time."
I was further amused by the momentary non-plussed look that she hastily glossed over at my reply when she asked if I wanted some Chips or deep fried potatoe skins with my main meal. I said "oh, so it only comes with a mushroom and some tomatoes? Excellent!" I think she was rather taken aback at my cheeriness about this fact. All I can say is that is certainly made my temptation to break my slimming to not want to pay extra...

You forgot to mention the not having milk issue due to the barman not having slept :D

And her comment that after the male waiters had faffed about for a bit and she then sorted out a table for us "that it just needed a woman to sort it out". Best waitress EVA!
